" As you know we scratched the right front fender of the car. When I called Avis in Sevilla to bring this to their attention - trying to be honest and up front- I was told by the lady who I spoke to that they would automatically charge my credit card 1300 Euro's. When I pointed out that I had paid Auto Europe for full coverage with no deductible, she said that was between me and Auto Europe and as far as Avis was concerned I had no coverage at all. Not what I wanted to hear. She was very nasty and completely uncooperative. Of course, when I spoke to Auto Europe I was assured I had nothing to worry about. Re: our Avis rental from Florence to Milan, everything was fine except when we dropped off the car. They were prepared to charge us an additional 30 Euro's but could not explain what it was for. We were completely paid up front with Auto Europe, brought back the car on time with a full tank of gas and no damage. The man behind the counter had a terrible attitude as if we were bothering him but subsequently cancelled the charge with no explanation and no apology. Just a shrug of his shoulders while talking to someone on his phone. So the cars were fine but Avis has a real problem with some of their employees. "

" In general, I was very satisfied with my car rental experience. When we arrived at the Madrid airport on April 7 in the late afternoon, I found the first agent, at the rental desk, to be short tempered nor did she offer any information about GPS or insurance (which may prove to be important). There was also considerable discussion about the two child seats I had requested, which eventually we managed to resolve. The vehicle we received when we went to the Avis parking lot, was a nine passenger, manual transmission van, not the seven passenger, automatic transmission vehicle I had requested. At this point, the fellow at the parking lot office proved to be very kind and very attentive, apologizing profusely for the rental desk's error. He found an automatic transmission van elsewhere in Madrid, which, unfortunately, had mechanical difficulties en route to the airport. Fortunately, another customer returned a van which was large enough for our party of six (four adults and two small children). The fellow at the parking lot office kept informing me of the developments and, after about an hour and a half, we were on the road in the third vehicle. I wish I had the fellow's name, because he is a true asset for Avis. When parking in Askoitia in the Basque Country, I scratched the back fender of the van. I pointed this mishap out to agent when I returned the vehicle at the Madrid Airport on April 14 but have heard no report about any additional cost (it has now been over a week). The return went quickly and smoothly, except for this outstanding item. The car functioned well and I was surprised by the courtesy of the Spanish drivers (in comparison with so many US drivers). "

I had filled up 20km away from the airport fearing that I wouldn't see another gas station the rest of the way. And the gas indicator still showed it completely full... so not even sure how he noticed. Regardless, I feel like they should be more lenient with this, as gas stations are not always present at airports. "

" Hertz is a great car rental company, however trying to reach the Airport office in Florence Italy at ANY hour was impossible. I needed to check if there was an after hours drop box at the Florence airport and if there was 24hr shuttle to the terminal. No one ever answered the phone and in the end I called Auto Europe in the States long distance and they helped me out. BTW no shuttle until 7am and barely any taxis! At least install a taxi phone. "

When we contacted Auto Europe from Bayonne after our grueling trip to France (27/12), we were told that the Kia Picanto is a similar car to the Renault Clio, which is what your site advertised. I would not consider the Picanto as a similar car to the Clio, and feel you should not advertise a significantly better car than what is in reality offered. "

It was not only inconvenient adding significant time to an already long journey but also frustrating. The man checking in the vehicle got on his hands and knees and looked for damage underneath the car where he claimed the under bumper had been scrapped on a curb. Now this was not something I had looked for on initial inspection (the car - a black Audi A5 convertible- already had several scrapes listed). I was charged 400 Euros for damage I had not done. This employee immediately looked for this damage and in over 20 years of renting cars regularly for euro travel is something I have never seen before. It felt very much like a scam. "
