With France being one of the most exquisite countries in the world, one can (and should) try to make the most of this wonderful country when traveling around by rental car. It's a diverse country where you can delve into the elegant and modern cities of Paris or Marseille, and then find yourself surrounded by mountains, or under the sun on a beach somewhere along the Atlantic Ocean or the Mediterranean.
Whether you start your French holiday in the city of Paris or in the seaside port of Marseille, you can enjoy both of these cities - and traveling between them! The cities of Paris and Marseille are just over 660 km apart. When you drive along routes A6 and A7, the cities are about 8 hours apart by car! The trip between Marseille and Paris will take you through the eastern side of the country and the Rhône-Alpes. You'll have your choice of small towns and villages to visit along the way, but visiting the city of Lyon is also an option!
You can travel from the Atlantic coast all the way to the Mediterranean coast in just one day, and you'll make memories doing so! The Atlantic coastal city of Nantes is located less than 800 km from the Mediterranean coastal city of Nice. You'll have your choice of driving through the center and mountainous part of the country along the A6 route, or along the western coast and southernmost part of the country along the A62 route.
The Belgian border city of Lille is just under 700 km from the Atlantic coast city of Bordeaux, and when you travel along the A10 or A1 routes, you'll see the center of the country for about 8 hours - and can even stop in Paris along the way!
