In August each year, the locals of Corfu island celebrate the miracle of Saint Spyridon, who is believed to have saved the island from a Turkish assault on the 11th of August, 1716. The festival takes place in Paleokastritsa, and it is quite a spectacle to behold! The Corfiots commemorate the miracle with a mock nautical fight between fleets of boats in the bay, and the scene is set with dramatic traditional music. The event comes to a blazing climax as one of the Turkish boats is set on fire, symbolizing the divine intervention that saved the island from destruction.

Every year, around 400 classic and vintage cars make a round trip from Brescia to Rome and back - a thousand miles through Italy in one long weekend. The Imnarja Feast and Festival is one of the oldest festivals in the country. Celebrating St. Peter and St. Paul, this folk festival goes back before the arrival of the Knights in 1530! The Imnarja Feast and Festival is held in the Buskett Garden, just outside of Rabat. Festivities begin on 28 June with an agricultural show and folk music; the traditional food of the feast is a fried rabbit. On 29 June, there will be a donkey and bareback horse racing which will bring the event to an end.

Running of the Bulls

This world-renowned tradition originally began in the 14th Century as a means for the local butchers to transport their inventory to markets, and now rather than chasing the bulls throughout the streets, participants run AHEAD of bulls! The event lasts for about 3-5 minutes but can take up to a couple hours longer depending on the animals. If participating in this event proves too strenuous, there are many observatory seats along the outer ring. Our only advice is to get there early, as the streets of Pamplona fill up faster for this event than any other surrounding venues combined!
