    Running of the Bulls

    Pamplona, Spain

    Start date:
    End date:

This world-renowned tradition originally began in the 14th Century as a means for the local butchers to transport their inventory to markets, and now rather than chasing the bulls throughout the streets, participants run AHEAD of bulls! The event lasts for about 3-5 minutes but can take up to a couple hours longer depending on the animals. If participating in this event proves too strenuous, there are many observatory seats along the outer ring. Our only advice is to get there early, as the streets of Pamplona fill up faster for this event than any other surrounding venues combined!

The food fights of yesteryear, in the cafeteria, and birthday parties can’t hold a candle to La Tomatina. One hundred metric tons of over-ripe tomatoes are trucked to the city, where tens of thousands of people flood the streets to hurl their red fruit missiles at anyone and everyone in their path. Due to the daunting scale of people participating in this food fight, for safety, it is for the kids at heart, not actual kids.

The international competition is commemorating 52 years, and the "fun run" 39 years. Parties interested in participating in either of these 10km races should register as soon as possible--there were close to 40,000 entrants in 2013, which is a lot in theory, but this event always fills up!
