Gaud assumed the Chief Architect and Director of Works roles 1883 at the Sagrada Familia. The original architect has died away, yet the building continues to rise. We at Auto Europe are here to inform you about this beautiful architecture.
The Sagrada Familia is unrivaled as a contemporary architectural marvel. It's possible that other buildings, such as St. Peter's Basilica, are more spectacular, but you'll have to see them for yourself. Sagrada Familia is without a peer regarding contemporary basilicas and stone buildings.
The intricate exterior and stunning interior of the Sagrada Familia warrant an in-depth tour led by a knowledgeable local. You'll want to discover where Gaud got his ideas and what the building's external and interior symbols mean. A guided tour of the Sagrada Familia will give you a fresh perspective. The best attractions of Sagrada Familia are listed below.
9.- Jesus Presented To The Crowd By Pontus Pilate: Around one hundred figures featuring Jesus being delivered to the multitude by Pontus Pilate were carved by Josep Maria Subirachs for the Facade of Passion on the building's western side.
8.- The Nativity Facade (Eastern Side): Aside from being the first part of the church to be finished, the "the Birth of Christ" façade also has a distinctively different design aesthetic from the remainder of the building. "Hope," "Mercy," and "Faith" are the names of the three gateways.
7.- Passion Facade (Western Side): The "Passion of Christ" is the time leading up to Jesus' death, and everybody who has read the Bible or been to church knows this. The term "passion" itself derives from a Latin phrase that means "to suffer" or "to endure." Therefore, a crown of thorns and Jesus bearing the crucifixion are standard depictions of the Passion of Christ.
6.- The Facade Of Bliss: The third and final façade, the façade of Bliss, has not yet been built. It symbolizes the Holy Trinity (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit) and Christ's third incarnation. Christian art often features groupings of three. Don't be fooled by its name; the Facade of Bliss depicts less-than-happy iconography.
5.- The 18 Towers: Only eight of the original Antonio Gaud design's 18 towers or spires have been built. All eight towers have been constructed, with four on each Passion and Nativity facade. Eight of the 12 apostles are honored by the finished spires. Once finished, the remaining four towers will be visible from the third facade.
4.- Illuminated Christ On Cross (Gloria A Deu, A Dalt Del Cel): To avoid upsetting the excessively devout, I will discuss this aspect in the most general terms possible. It seems fitting that the dramatic sculpture of Jesus on the cross is hung over a feature that seems more at home in a beachside bar.
3.- Stained Glass Windows: Sagrada Familia, like any massive building that takes centuries to complete, will have many people to thank for its design, construction, and conceptualization. Joan Vila-Grau designed and crafted the stained glass windows.
2.- Buttresses And Flying Buttresses: Or, maybe, the absence of! Notre Dame comes to mind when one considers a buttress or flying buttress. I have no intention of diminishing Notre Dame's grandeur. However, Gaudi did away with the method; his basilica remains today. At least what has been finished remains.
1.- Inside Nave/Vaul: Almost 150 feet (45 meters) in height, the central nave of Sagrada Familia is undeniably the most striking element of the inner church. The floating ceiling is a significant design feature.
Ironically, Barcelona's most visited building was built without local authorization. In April 2019, Sagrada Família received a building license after 134 years. After this new arrangement, the firm building Sagrada Família began building the remaining five towers, signaling the conclusion. Due to its massive size and complexity, Sagrada Família's completion date is uncertain. 2025 replaced 2022. It may finish before 2030, like St. Peter's Basilica.
