Car Rental UK: Explore the North

The United Kingdom is a large and diverse country, so when you visit there are many options that you have for what you want to see. Check out these two interesting cities of the north and consider them for your Next Vacation!

    Car Rental UK: Go North

Most of the traffic going into the UK from America arrives at Heathrow Airport. While many choose to explore London and Southern England, the North has just as much to offer. It's about a five hour drive from Heathrow to Newcastle, and there are a couple of good things about making the drive yourself. Not only do you get to travel at your own pace, you get to see more of the beautiful countryside! Plus, it's almost always more economical for a family of four to rent a car, rather than public transportation thanks in part to Auto Europe's low UK rental car rates.

    Travel to Newcastle

    Car Rental Newcastle, UK

There are several must see attractions in Newcastle. If you're with your family, take the children to the Discovery Museum. This history and science museum offers a hands on approach. Washing Waterfoul Park (actually in Sunderland) is a great place to kick back and relax and learn about birds. Tynemouth Castle and Priory is great fun for exploration, and is at least 1400 years old! The castle actually was active during WWII but now much of it has been restored and is open to the public. Also make sure you check out the Laing Art Gallery which is near some good nightclub and shopping locations. There is a piece of art outside called the Blue Carpet. Though the 'Carpet' has faded substantially, you can still get the idea. Plan on staying the night in Newcastle or Sunderland.

    Travel to Edinburgh

    Car Rental Edinburgh, Scotland

Once you've had your fill of Newcastle, drive to Edinburgh, Scotland. This will take roughly 2.5 hours and there's much to do. The Royal Botanic Garden and the Princes Street Gardens are great places to relax and unwind after a drive. If you feel like doing some more driving, Xtreme Karting Edinburgh is suitable for all ages and is great for some good ole fashioned family go-kart racing. Be sure to visit the Camera Obscura and World of Illusions, Scotland's oldest purpose build attraction. Established in 1835, it offers a money back guarantee if you are not fully satisfied with the interactive, hands on exhibits.

Be sure to take a climb up to Arthur's Seat, an extinct volcano that is one of the most notable features of the city. Enjoy a lunch and beautiful views from the top. You will want to take a stroll down the 'Royal Mile.' It is one of the worlds most famous streets, and truly a must see. It's filled with history, cobblestones, street performers, and unique buildings. Talk to some locals to see what they recommend for dinner.
