" Excellent experience, receiving great rate about three months ahead of trip. Received car type I requested. Appreciated the courtesy of your US based customer service line rep who explained in great detail the policies and procedures regarding the breakdown coverage with zero deductible coverage. "

" Easy pickup in Palermo, some effort to upsell Europcar insurance but once I explained I bought Auto Europe zero deductible breakdown coverage and I knew how that worked( especially the reduced excess) the sales rep stopped asking. Received a Jeep vs Peugeot 2008 which was fine and the Europcar firm accurately detailed a few bumps and front end wear. I took a complete video of car outside and inside and added the dents and bruises located in the boot from luggage. Car ran great and didn't experience any issues while driving across Sicily. Returned car earlier on last day than expected due to decision to tour Catania in greatest depth. Drop off attendant was courteous and attentive and didn't complain when I asked for a receipt which clearly indicated "No Damages" Very good experience and will rent from AutoEurope and with Europcar next year. Just saw my refund of the €500 deposit posting as pending in my Visa account so once that clears we're good. Thank you sincerely "

" My experience with Auto Europe has always been good, whether I process the rental online or with one of your representatives. "

" I have given a 7 to the counter experience and to AVIS overall because of a hard sell for additional "vandalism insurance." This does not happen without corporate being aware. What is this all about anyway? A waste of my time (like 10-15 minutes) and playing on people's fears that they will be stuck with a huge bill should the car get a scratch. How AVIS knows the difference between damage done through vandalism or an accident, beats me. And does it really matter? I was assured by American Express that I did not need any additional insurance for damage to the car or property damage. Instead, the counter person insisted that I would be liable and the expenses could be in the thousands of dollars. This is a shakedown, pure and simple and Auto Europe should insist that AVIS cease this nonsense. At a minimum, Auto Europe should provide consumers with clear information about what additional insurance might be necessary, depending on what coverage is provided through credit card companies when you use their card for a rental. "

" I was very anxious about the rental as it was my first time. However, everything went off smoothly. The only downside was that I ordered a A3 (or similar car) but was provided a Jeep Kompass. Although it was not a similar car to A3, in my opinion, it was a blessing in disguise as our travel included a lot of steep climbs. Because of this, I give a rating of 8. If not, it would be a 10. "

The rep said it would cost me two euro per leader which was OK with me. However when I receive the bill there was also A 24 or €25 refueling fee which I was not told about. " The car was nice, and pickup and dropoff were quick with no issues. On the downside - the car had quite a lot of cosmetic scratches (10+), mostly noted down, though there were several other tiny ones that weren't mentioned. Given the number of stated scratches, we didn't bother with these ones and we had no issues when returning the car, but it still gave us a bit of anxienty. The worst experience was with the call centers in Palermo and Catania. The people answering the phone barely understand english, and couldn't give us basic answers about driving in Sicily. One question was about highway toll booths - the answer was "i don't know, i am on a chair in palermo office, how can i know?". This is absurd, how can you not know? "

" The Palermo airport office did their job reasonably well. I got the sense that the staff in the parking lot was reluctant to engage, perhaps because of limited English. Otherwise it was fine. We got the car and got out without a major problem. By the way, we used Google maps for the trip on an unlocked, data-only cellphone plan. I had pre-downloaded links to the routes in emails, and accessed them on wifi at our hotels. The phone only got stuck on re-routing once, but the already downloaded map provided enough guidance to get us back on the original route. I'd recommend carrying a good paper road-map as well. "

If you rent in Italy, get the Panda! Nice skinny car for these skinny roads, and short enough for these narrow parking places. "

(inconvenient!) Once again, after 5 more days, the new unit similarly malfunctioned, but we could not return for a replacement, again-we were left without a viable wifi connection for the remainder of our trip. .Disappointing. " Second time I rented with autoeurope in Palermo. First time I was charged with bumper damage to car, which I deny was there. Couldnt do anything since I dropped the car off after hours and used the key drop box. This time I dropped the car off during regular business hours. Car was checked over by an employee who signed off on there being no damage. I hope there are no surprise charges later on. I have used autoeurope before and have always had good experiences. "

It was a little difficult to determine the actual/appropriate size of the car to choose since a some of the different classes (of the smaller cars, at least) looked pretty similar. The "representative" car looked more "sporty" than the car we ended up getting. "

" Having offices closed for 2+ hours in the middle of the day makes scheduling difficult for travelers. But that is their culture and we certainly understand. The biggest factor is that we wish (or perhaps there was?) there had been a "non-smoking" option for the car. I absolutely STUNK like an old ashtray. The car's windshield was filthy with water spots that we were never able to remove despite washing. Fortunately, all driving was during daylight hours. That is nit-picking, though. The car performed fine. The p/u was straightforward. The cigarette smell was annoying but understandable in southern Italy! "
