Present day Spoleto is divided into two levels; the Lower Town, which has been extensively rebuilt after World War II, and the well-preserved medieval Upper Town, containing the majority of the city's sacred and historic landmarks. Among the list of these excellent historical sites are the first century Roman amphitheater, the 12th century Duomo, 13th century Ponte delle Torri, otherwise known as the Bridge of Towers and the Rocca Albornoziana, a 14th century hilltop fortress. Dining options in the city are almost as diverse as its historic sites. From traditional Umbrian sausages to savory Scottish salmon and Argentinean Angus beef, there is something on offer to tantalize every taste bud.
Spoleto now requires that all American motorists purchase an International Driving Permit to operate a vehicle or rent a motor vehicle. For around $20 you are able to pickup an IDP from the local AAA. Please click on the link to understand the new IDP laws for international drivers in Italy.
