Road Signs of New Zealand


Though New Zealand is not a signing member of the Vienna Convention, many of their road signs still fall under the same standards as outline in the treaty. As the country's drivers will keep left in traffic, in line with the United Kingdom and South Africa, many of the driving rules in New Zealand will follow these countries. Driving conditions in New Zealand are also slightly more dangerous due to environmental factors. Below are some sign examples that utilize the left-hand traffic rules as well as environmental dangers.

Left Turn OK A restrictive sign indicating that left-hand turns are permitted. In New Zealand, left-hand turns are only allowed when there is no oncoming traffic, but also only when there is no traffic making a right hand turn at the same intersection.
Rock Slides A danger sign indicating the upcoming route may be hazardous due to rock slides. Use extreme caution and proceed with care.
Roundabout Directions An example of a directional sign indicating the various routes connected via roundabout.
Regional Route Marker A direction sign indicating the current route that is being driven, along with the distances to cities and towns that are reached using the route.
