As Italy is a signing member of the Vienna Convention, many of the danger signs, priority signs, and prohibitory signs that are used throughout the country are standardized. You will also find road signs in Italy that do not conform to standards, as they only apply to Italian roads and customs, and are sometimes written in Italian. Below are some examples of road signs that are only found in Italy.
A direction sign indicating the various speed limits when traveling within a city, outside a city's limits, and on the Autostrada.

This is a mandatory sign indicating "Dogana," or that a customs post is approaching, in English.

A mandatory sign indicating "Alt Polizia," or an upcoming stop for police, in English.

A danger sign noting "Inizio area cantiere," or begin road work area in English. Exercise caution until you see that the work area has passed.

A danger sign noting "fine area cantiere," or end road work area in English. You may resume normal driving speeds.

An information sign indicating "Polizei," or police in English, indicating a nearby police station.
