Driving Overview

General Information
The roads of Switzerland offer spectacular views of the Alps, one of the world’s most spectacular mountain ranges. The alpine passes are easy to drive but extra caution is advised on narrow and winding roads. You can also tour through the medieval villages, beautiful flower gardens and visit one of the many Swiss vineyards. Beware that during the summer and winter tourist season, traffic tends to be heaviest.

Requirements
To rent a car, you must be at least 20 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your license for 1 year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge. Seatbelts are mandatory and child seats are mandatory for children up to age 7.

Speed Limits
Speed limits in Switzerland are as follows: City 31mph/49kph Open Roads 50mph/80kph Highways 75mph/120kph

Rules of the Road
Traffic travels on the right and passing is forbidden on roads with double white lines. Trams always have the right of way. Moving trams should be passed on the right but passed on the left at all other times.

Gas
Most gas stations are open from 8am to 10pm. Some self-service stations accept credit cards and Swiss Francs at the pump.

Tolls
Highways in Switzerland require a toll sticker that costs approximately US$28. Cars rented in Switzerland have the sticker attached; otherwise you must purchase the sticker separately. The fine is approx US$100 for driving with out a sticker.

Parking
Most cities have 'blue zones' that require you to display a parking disc on your dashboard. These discs can be obtained at motor clubs, gas stations and police stations. Parking on the sidewalks is illegal in Switzerland.

Insurance Information

General Information
Car rental insurance varies widely, so please review the information below prior to making your reservation. Regulations of the country where you rent the car will be in effect for the duration of your rental.

All our car rental rates include fire and third party liability insurance. Our inclusive rates also provide collision and theft coverage at an advance purchase discount. You may elect to decline collision and theft coverage. If you plan to take advantage of coverage offered by your credit card, please contact your card issuer directly for details. Specific insurance information for your reservation will be printed on your confirmation voucher.

The following guidelines apply to rentals commencing in Switzerland.

Required Coverage
Fire and third party liability insurance is mandatory and is included in all rentals. Third party liability insurance offers US$1,800,000 coverage in case of damage or injury to people or property outside of the rental car.

Optional Coverage
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and theft protection are included in our inclusive rates at a discount. CDW, if purchased at the rental counter, costs approximately US$15 - US$72 per day. Theft protection, if purchased at the rental counter, costs approximately US$5 - US$12 per day. CDW and theft coverage reduce the deductible (responsibility of the client) to US$830 - US$2075, depending on the vehicle type that is rented. Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) is available at the rental counter for approximately US$4 - US$9 per day. Super CDW may be offered locally to reduce the deductible as low as zero. Optional insurance coverage is available with select suppliers only, rates subject to change without notice.
