Entry Requirements
U.S. citizens do not require a visa to enter Malta for visits of less than three months. A certificate is required from the Director of Veterinary Service of Malta prior to the import of the animal. Pets are allowed to enter the country as long as they have valid vaccination and health certificates. Pets must be vaccinated at least 30 days but less than 6 months prior to the date of entry. Pets can be quarantined for a period of six months. Pit Bull Terriers are not allowed into Malta.

Customs
Travelers are not required to pay duty on an appropriate amount of items for their personal use during their visit. In addition, the following duty-free allowances apply: no more than 1 liter of alcohol and 1 liter of wine; and 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250 grams of tobacco.

Currency Exchange
Banking hours are between 8.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. on Saturdays. A foreign exchange facility, open 24 hours, is available at the International Airport; ATM’s are also widely available throughout the island.

Tipping
A tip of 10% is often included in hotel and restaurant bills. A 10% tip is customary in restaurants, hotels and cabs when not included as part of the bill.

General Business Hours
Most shops in Malta are open for business from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday - Saturday. Many shops will close for lunch from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Shops in popular tourist destinations may stay open as late as 10 p.m.. Restaurants and bars tend to stay open from 9 a.m. to 1a.m. Most restaurants serve only alcohol in the late evening/early morning hours.
