Driving Overview

General Information
Finland offers motorists some of the most unique and beautiful scenery in Europe. The highway system is excellent, however many routes are indirect due to the many lakes in southern Finland. The further north your travels take you in Finland, the fewer roads you will find. Ferries arrive in the capital of Helsinki from Sweden, Germany and even England.

Requirements
To rent a car, you must be at least 20 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your license for 1 year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge. Seatbelts are mandatory and the legal blood-alcohol limit is .05. Children under 3 must be seated in rear with child seat or using normal seat belts if no child seat is available.

Speed Limits
Speed limits in Finland are as follows: City 31mph/50kph Open Roads 62mph/100kph Highways 74mph/120kph

Rules of the Road
Traffic travels on the right and you may pass on the right on multilane roadways. Streetcars always have the right of way.

Gas
Most gas stations are open from 7am to 9pm with some stations in major cities open 24 hours. A gallon of unleaded gas price is approximately US$4.50.

Tolls
There are no toll highways in Finland.

Parking
Most cities have metered parking areas. When there are no meters pay-and-display parking vouchers, which can be obtained at gas stations, must be displayed on the dashboard.

Insurance Information

General Information
Car rental insurance varies widely, so please review the information below prior to making your reservation. Regulations of the country where you rent the car will be in effect for the duration of your rental.

All our car rental rates include fire and third party liability insurance. Our inclusive rates also provide collision and theft coverage at an advance purchase discount. You may elect to decline collision and theft coverage. If you plan to take advantage of coverage offered by your credit card, please contact your card issuer directly for details. Specific insurance information for your reservation will be printed on your confirmation voucher.

The following guidelines apply to rentals commencing in Finland.

Required Coverage
Fire and third party liability insurance are mandatory and included in all rentals. Third party liability insurance offers unlimited coverage for rentals in Finland in case of damage or injury to people or property outside of the rental car.

Optional Coverage
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and theft protection are included in our inclusive rates at a discount. CDW, if purchased at the rental counter, costs approximately US$12.75 per day. Theft protection, if purchased at the rental counter, costs approximately US$6 - US$10 per day. CDW and theft coverage reduce the deductible (responsibility of the client) to US$630 - US$1800, depending on the vehicle type. Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) is available with some suppliers at the rental counter for approximately US$5 - US$9 per day. Super CDW may be offered locally to reduce the deductible as low as zero. Optional insurance coverage is available with select suppliers only, rates subject to change without notice.
