Customs
Travelers are not required to pay duty on an appropriate amount of items for their personal use during their visit. In addition, the following duty-free allowances apply: no more than 1 liter wine/liquor and 200 cigarettes.
Currency Exchange
Most banks are open from 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Certain central banks may offer additional afternoon hours. Currency can also be exchanged at most major hotels on Cyprus. Rates of exchange are published daily in the newspaper.
Tipping
In established hotels and restaurants you will find a customary service charge of approximately 10% added to all bills. If the service warrants you may leave additional. In cafes and establishments where no service is added feel free to leave an appropriate amount between 10-15%. Taxi drivers and porters always appreciate a small tip.
Business Hours
In the Summer months, shops are open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., closing between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. In the Winter months, shops are open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., closing between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Most shops on Cyprus are closed on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons and Sundays.
