    Summer Celebrations in Europe

With the Summer season officially in swing, a number of fantastic Summer celebrations in Europe gear-up for a year of festivals like no other.

    Jun 24, 2015

This summer Europe has much to offer, just as it does every year. If you are travelling to the old continent this article can help you start planning your vacation, or perhaps you will want to make a few changes to your schedule after reading this. We want to share some travel inspiration by showing you some of the largest European celebrations that will take place in the following months.

First of all, you must know that Europe is full of deeply rooted traditions and most of its celebrations are a good example of it. If you will be in the European Union don't miss the chance to be part of these incredible cultural celebrations.

    San Fermines - Pamplona, Spain

Let's start in Pamplona, where by the second week of July takes place one of the most internationally renowned Spanish celebrations, known as San Fermines. It is a week-long celebration in honor of Saint Fermin, which gathers tourists from all over the world and has an estimated attendance of one million people. The celebration starts the 6th of July with the traditional explosion of fireworks, called chupinazo, which marks the beginning of the San Fermines.  The central event of this celebration is the bull running or encierro, where hundreds of people run in front of bulls along the narrow streets of old town Pamplona. This celebration involves a lot of tradition and many cultural events, making July one of the best times to visit Spain.

Zurich Street Parade - Zurich, Switzerland

If the bulls are not your thing, you may prefer to go to the annually celebrated Zurich Street Parade, in Switzerland, which is known for being the largest techno festival in the world. Up to one million people gather in the streets of Zurich for this celebration as an aim to promote love, peace, tolerance and freedom. The Street Parade takes place the 2nd of August and is one of Europe's biggest parties.

Palio de Siena - Siena, Italy

If you are thinking of spending some time in Italy, you can go to the traditional celebration of Palio de Siena.  The Palio - as it is known in Italy - consists of a bareback horse race around the Piazza de Campo. The Palio is celebrated twice a year, the first race is held the 2nd of July, and the other one on August the 16th. If you're looking for some cultural intrigue on your trip abroad, the Palio de Siena makes the late Summer months one of the best times of year to visit Italy!

    Tomatina - Valencia, Spain

Another interesting European celebration is the Tomatina, in Spain. This is one of the oddest European celebrations and has taken place annually for more than half a century in Bu˝ol, Valencia. The Tomatina is a tomato battle, where all the people involved throw tomatoes to each other until water canyons mark the end of the fight.  This celebration gathers a huge amount of tourists, but is not well-seen for many due to the ridiculous amount of wasted vegetables.
