Joyful children splashing in mud puddles, bustling city lights and native New Zealand birds strutting along a beach boardwalk are just some of the vibrant images that Auckland's best photographers have captured. At the 2012 Auckland Festival of Photography, these veteran picture-takers will return to showcase their best photos with the hope of being recognized for their art work. Travelers who book a trip to New Zealand this June can attend the nearly month-long event and decide if beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
The photography festival is the largest in New Zealand and hosts numerous exhibitions and events in venues throughout Auckland. With an emphasis on culture, identity, art and participation, the show invites all levels of exhibitors, including dealer galleries, private and public venues, individual photographers and community groups. From June 1-24, organizers will host events such as Festival Tuesday, Auckland Photo Day, Talking Culture Symposium and more.
To coincide with the spectacle's nontraditional style, exhibitions take place not just in museum galleries and conference rooms. In the past, contributors have showcased their works of art in libraries, sports stadiums, schools, dance studios, at bus stops and on billboards. Anywhere that travelers look in the month of June, they can expect to see some unique snapshot captured from real life. New Zealand visitors can be a part of the event by planning their visit to Auckland early and venturing through the city this summer.
