Travelers with a car rental in Faro do not need to drive all the way to Italy to see Roman artifacts. Instead, they can stay in the beautiful Portuguese countryside and visit Milreu, the ruins of what was once a stunning Roman villa.

The ancient buildings have been an integral part of Faro for years. While they were originally built in the first or second centuries, the architecture was remodeled in the fourth century. After this extensive remodel, the villa was occupied until around the sixth or seventh century.

Today, travelers who visit Milreu will find the classic villa and its many columns, as well as what was once its agricultural installations, bath house and temple.

While the villa is open to the public during both the winter and summer, travelers should be advised that it is closed on Mondays. Additionally, it is closed every day between 12:20 and 2 p.m. But if travelers hop in their car rental in Portugal and see this historical landmark when it is open, they are sure to be amazed by its classic Roman beauty.
