Those who visit Spain to broaden their knowledge of art will want to pick up a car rental in Madrid and take a drive to the Museo Nacional del Prado, which is home to some of the greatest works ever to come out of the country.

The building that houses the museum was constructed in the late 1700s, and became a home to artistic works when Spain was under the rule of King Ferdinand VII. The institution opened its doors to the public in 1819 and has been a destination for art lovers ever since.

Today, travelers who have a car rental in Spain can visit the museum and appreciate thousands of paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints. While the facility is home to artistic works from various European countries, it is known to have the largest collection of Spanish paintings in the world.

At the museum, the two best represented Spanish artists are Francisco Goya and Diego Velázquez. Travelers can view almost 50 paintings from Velázquez and more than 140 from Goya.

Also on display are examples of Greek, Roman and medieval sculpture, as well as unique drawings from the 15th through 19th centuries.
