Explore the districts of Paris by car

Travelers who are heading to Paris, France, may know what attractions they definitely want to see, but not be able to name what part of the city these sites are located in. The truth is, Paris is divided into 20 different districts and one of the most efficient ways to see each one is to pick up a car rental in France.

These different parts of the City of Light are more commonly referred to as arrondissements. On certain maps of Paris, travelers may notice a series of numbers that increase in a clockwise spiral. Each numeral represents a different neighborhood, with number one sitting in the center of the city.

If travelers begin their exploration of Paris in arrondissement one, they will most likely encounter other visitors and tourists, as this area is home to one of the world’s most famous museums – the Louvre. The center of Paris is also popular with shoppers and fashion fanatics, since it is where they will find the Palais Royal department store.

After visitors fill up their car rental in Paris with the latest fashions, they can make a drive to arrondissement two, which is where travelers will find La Bourse – the city’s stock exchange. While this area may be more appealing to business professionals than the average tourist, it does feature an outdoor market and a series of quaint cafes for those in search of the perfect Parisian experience.

In arrondissement three, drivers will find 17th century mansions that once served as the homes of famous writers, such as Victor Hugo, author of Les Misérables and The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. In this district, culture seekers will also find the Picasso Museum. Art galleries can also be found in arrondissement six, as well as boutiques and restaurants that serve up modern cuisine.

As the districts’ numbers increase, so too do the amount of famous sights for travelers to appreciate. In arrondissement seven, the Eiffel Tower rises high into the Parisian sky, while the next neighborhood is where people will drive down the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. In addition to its beauty, this portion of the city is known for its luxury shops and cinemas.

With each arrondissement unique in its own way, travelers may get caught up in exploring and not be able to get to all 20. However, they should try their best, as there is so much left to see. For instance, the 13th district contains Chinatown and the 17th is where people will find the Arc de Triomphe.
