Meet Befana at the Piazza Navona Christmas Market

Meet Befana at the Piazza Navona Christmas Market

Nov 10, 2011
No matter what time of year it is, visitors to Italy should consider investing in a car rental in Rome and exploring the city on four wheels. The square known as Piazza Navona is definitely worth seeing - especially between November and January, when it hosts its annual Christmas Market.

In addition to appreciating the sights in this square, including the Fountain of the Moor, the Fountain of the Four Rivers and the Fountain of Neptune, visitors can shop for holiday gifts at the Christmas Market. Travelers will want to bring the whole family to this festive spot, as children will get a chance to meet Santa Claus, while older individuals may enjoy seeing Piazza Navona's nativity scenes and other decorations.

Stalls will be set up throughout the holiday season so that shoppers can peruse a selection of items and edible treats. Those who take their car rental in Italy to the square on January 6 will also have a chance to learn a little about the country's own holiday traditions as Befana passes out presents to children in attendance. According to Italian folklore, Befana is an older woman who, much like Santa Claus, provides gifts to children who have been good on Epiphany.
