Art lovers who are heading to Europe on a mission to see some of the world's most famous works of art should consider a visit to Italy. Once they arrive, they can pick up a car rental in Florence and spend their trip museum hopping.

Anybody who has come to Florence in search of great art surely knows that the city is home to Michelangelo's David. Visitors may think that the statue standing outside of the Piazza della Signoria is the work of the true Michelangelo, but this is merely a replica that stands in David's original location. To better preserve the masterpiece, it was moved to the Accademia delle Belle Arti. Here, travelers will also find Botticelli's Madonna and Child.

More of Botticelli's work, such as Birth of Venus and Primavera, can be found at the Uffizi Gallery. With a total of 45 rooms and art from the 13th through 18th centuries, travelers may have to make several visits to this museum to fully appreciate all it has to offer.

Other museums travelers with a car rental in Italy will want to add to their sightseeing itinerary are the Bargello Museum and Pitti Palace.
