    Rental Facts

    • May I make changes to my rental while traveling?

      If you need to make any changes to your reservation while traveling, including, but not limited to rental duration, locations or vehicle type, please call our toll-free number before the expiration of the rental period; the number is provided in the terms and conditions of your Auto Europe rental voucher. We are open 24 hours per day, 7 days a week to assist you in making any changes.
    • What should I do with paperwork pertaining to my rental?

      We advise you to retain any paperwork you receive, including the rental agreement, final invoice, and fuel receipts - this will enable us to assist you in answering any questions you may have.
    • Should I read my rental voucher?

      Please read your Auto Europe voucher and its "Terms & Conditions" in full. You may contact us anytime, 24/7, if you have any questions or visit our car rental fees page for more information on anything you might have to pay in addition to your rental rate.
    • What will happen when I arrive to pick up my rental?

      Upon arrival at your destination, you will be asked to sign a rental agreement outlining the inclusions and exclusions. Please carefully read the suppliers terms and conditions of the supplier contract prior to signing. Be sure to accept only the items you need or want to add in. Decline any items that you do not need or want. Auto Europe cannot refund any charges that are accepted at the time of check out.

    Car Rental FAQs

    • Can I use my airline miles towards my car rental?

      Auto Europe does not accept airline miles or credit card points, however you can enquire about this with the local rental company upon checking out your vehicle.
    • Can you guarantee that the car on the voucher is the car I am going to receive?

      Auto Europe, like all car rental companies, can not guarantee a specific make or model. We do guarantee the car category. A specific model may be requested, but it can not be guaranteed.
    • Do you have toll-free phone service from overseas?

      Instructions will be provided in the terms and conditions with your confirmation voucher, so you may contact us toll-free should you require assistance after departure. (Emergency road service is provided locally with every rental.)
    • How can I pay for my rental?

      Auto Europe accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club and Discover Card as well as personal checks. Keep in mind, Discover Card and personal checks are NOT accepted locally.
    • How is my rate guaranteed?

      We guarantee our rates in U.S. dollars. Reservations require full prepayment to confirm. Rentals made on the web are fully refundable up until 48 hours prior to pick up of the time on your Auto Europe voucher in which case a $75 cancellation fee will be assessed. Phone rates are fully refundable up until the time of pick up unless they are a matched web rate. In which case the web cancellation policy will be applicable. Due to limited availability, bookings confirmed for the pick up of vans from July 1 - August 31, 2013 are non-refundable whether made online or over the phone.
    • How quickly can I confirm my reservation?

      We're able to confirm most reservations with as little as 20 minutes advance notice. For last minute car reservations, please call us at 1 888 223 5555.
    • I did not receive my voucher, how can I obtain the voucher?

      An Auto Europe voucher can be sent to you via email in PDF or HTML format. The voucher can also be sent to you by fax. You can also visit our Reservation Look Up Form and view a printable copy of the voucher.
    • I do not have a credit card, can I still rent a car?

      If we have a contract with a supplier that allows a cash rental, then it is possible. Payment would still have to be made to Auto Europe and you would have to take an inclusive rate. A cash deposit would be required at time of pick up.

    • I have a debit card, can I use this to pick up my vehicle?

      Not all suppliers will accept debit cards at pick up. If the supplier does accept the debit card, the rental would have to be treated as a cash rental. Debit Card usage must be pre-approved through the supplier. Please contact Auto Europe to inquire if this is a possibility in advance of the rental.

    • I want to confirm my car rental with payment, but do not feel safe sending my credit card information to you by email. How can I confirm my car rental with payment?

      Auto Europe does have a secured server for credit card payment or you can call toll free at 1-888-223-5555 and speak with an agent to confirm you reservation.
    • Is an International Drivers License mandatory in Europe?

      It is mandatory in several countries and is highly recommended when renting in a country where English is not the primary language.
    • Is there a fee if I need to cancel or change my reservation?

      There is no fee to change a car rental booking provided that you contact Auto Europe before the end of the rental period, you will be charged the difference from the original booking amount. All changes must be processed by Auto Europe and not through our overseas affiliates. There is no fee to cancel a car rental booking provided that you contact Auto Europe more than 48 hours before your pickup time. A fee of $75 will occur with any cancellations with less than 48 hours notice. If you fail to notify Auto Europe of your cancellation and are considered a 'no show', the cancellation fee is 100% of the rental.
    • Can I take my rental car on a ferry?

      Most rental cars are NOT permitted to be taken on ferries, but rules can vary based on location and supplier. Please check the terms and conditions on your voucher or contact Auto Europe's 24/7 call center for detailed information on your specific reservation.
    • What if I find a better rate for a rental car?

      Auto Europe guarantees the best rates and service available. If you should find a lower rate with comparable service, terms, locations, surcharges etc. we'll beat it! To submit the lower rate to us, please complete our Guaranteed Best Rate form.
    • What is the difference between basic and inclusive rates?

      The basic rate includes public/third party liability insurance, fire insurance, value added tax and unlimited kilometers unless otherwise stated. The inclusive rate also includes Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection (TP) for the rental vehicle. Deductibles will still apply on inclusive rates. Additional insurance may be available to reduce or negate these deductibles.
    • What kind of insurance can I get for my rental car?

      Insurance coverage varies by country. Please see the insurance information in the Driving Information section for the country where you will be renting a car or our detailed insurance information page
    • When is your reservation center open?

      Our reservations center is open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

    • Can names be changed after payment has been added?

      The name of the primary driver on your voucher can always be changed before the reserved pick up time. Changing the primary driver may subject your reservation to the current rate for the vehicle, as it is at the time the change is made. The name cannot be changed once a rental is in progress. If you need to change the primary driver listed on a paid reservation, please contact Auto Europe's 24/7 call center for assistance.
    • What is the Ready-to-Go pickup guarantee?

      When you pay for a car rental through Auto Europe you'll enjoy the peace of mind that comes with our Ready-to-Go pickup guarantee. We're the only car rental company that guarantees your reservation, and if your car isn't there when you arrive we'll cover the cost of your booking. The Ready-to-Go pickup guarantee applies if your rental car is not ready within 60 minutes of your check-in at the counter. You must notify Auto Europe by phone while at the counter.
    • How do I claim reimbursement for the Ready-to-Go guarantee?

      The Ready-to-Go pickup guarantee applies if your rental car is not ready within 60 minutes of your check-in at the counter. You must notify Auto Europe by phone while at the counter. Auto Europe will need to verify with the supplier that the customer's vehicle is, in fact, not ready, and that the customer has been at the counter for at least 60 minutes. Auto Europe can verify this if the customer calls. Auto Europe will speak with the rental representative to validate the tardiness and qualification for coverage under the Ready-to-Go pickup guarantee. Exclusions: Customer must arrive at the proper time as indicated in his/her Auto Europe voucher. Early or late arrivals disqualify the coverage and after hours pick-ups are excluded. Maximum coverage for Auto Europe's Ready-to-Go Pickup Guarantee is $250. Coverage applies to North American based customers traveling outside of the US and Canada.

    Specialty & Sports Car FAQs

    • Are there any fees for changing or canceling my reservation?

      Specialty car reservations may be changed or cancelled without penalty up until 2 days prior to schedule start of rental. Cancellations and changes after this period may be subject to a minimum charge plus delivery fee if the vehicle has been dispatched to scheduled delivery location. All changes and cancellations must be processed by Auto Europe and not through our overseas affiliates.
    • Do you have toll-free service from overseas?

      Toll Free Service From Overseas - Instructions will be provided with your confirmation voucher, so you may contact us toll-free should you require assistance after departure.
    • How do I pay for my reservation?

      Because of the high value of specialty vehicles, 2 major credit cards must be provided at the time of rental. Auto Europe accepts American Express, Mastercard, Visa, and checks.
    • How do I pick-up my vehicle?

      Arrivals in airports and other public places will be greeted with a hand-held sign. Vehicles may also be delivered and returned to hotels and other locations.
    • How is my reservation confirmed?

      A detailed confirmation voucher will be sent to you. If you reserve by phone, vouchers are faxed to you immediately upon receipt of payment. If you reserve online, vouchers are emailed to you immediately upon receipt of payment. In either case, a copy is mailed the next business day.
    • How quickly can I make a reservation?

      We prefer a minimum of 24 hours notice for specialty car reservations.

    • Do you have Meet & Greet Services?

      You will be greeted in airports and other public places with a hand-held sign. We can also meet you at your hotel and in other locations.

    • Do you offer customized services?

      Yes, but additional advance notice is required to prepare custom itineraries and other special requests.
    • How can I pay for chauffeur services?

      Auto Europe accepts American Express, Mastercard, Visa and Discover.
    • How is my reservation confirmed?

      A detailed confirmation voucher will be sent to you. If you reserve by phone, vouchers are faxed to you immediately upon receipt of payment. If you reserve online, vouchers are emailed to you immediately upon receipt of payment. In either case, a copy is mailed the next business day.
    • How quickly can I reserve chauffeur service?

    • How will I find my transfer driver?

      Arrivals in airports and other transportation hubs will be greeted with a hand-held sign.
    • Is there a fee for canceling my reservation?

      Reservations are fully refundable up until the time the driver and vehicle depart the garage. 'No-show' bookings will be charged the full cost of the transfer.
    • Is there a fee for changing my reservation?

      There is no fee to change reservations for transfer services.

    Car Rental Pick Up and Drop Off

    • What do I need to pick up my car?

      A printed copy of your valid, confirmed Auto Europe voucher and a valid driver's license and credit card in the primary driver's name is required. Our vouchers show confirmation of your reservation and contain specific information about your rental car, rental rate and other important details needed by our overseas affiliates. When you reserve by phone, or on the web, vouchers are faxed or emailed to you immediately upon receipt of payment and confirmation of your vehicle. See our Sample Voucher for more information.
    • Where is the Auto Europe counter located?

      Auto Europe is an independent travel brokerage, not an agent for any particular car rental company. The name of the car rental company is provided at the top right hand of your voucher. It is also noted along with the location information for the supplier in the pick up and drop off details.
    • Why can't I add an additional driver on the Auto Europe website?

      Additional drivers must be registered when picking up your vehicle with the supplier you will be receiving your car from. Auto Europe does not determine or collect any fees associated with additional drivers. You can find more information on the cost of adding a driver in the "Your Rental Includes/Excludes" section of your Auto Europe voucher.
    • Will I need to leave a deposit when picking up my rental car?

      A deposit is always required whenever renting a car. The deposit will be held on your credit card (in some cases cash deposits may be allowed) by the local rental company when you pick up your vehicle. It is released in full when you drop off the vehicle in the same condition it was when you received it. Deposit amounts will vary; see the terms & conditions on your Auto Europe voucher for more information on the specific deposit amount for your rental.
    • Can I return my car early?

      There is no penalty for returning your car early. If you need to return your car earlier than your chosen drop off time/date, be sure that the rental office will be open when you plan on dropping off (hours are listed on your voucher). Out of hours drop offs will require the use of a drop box. Please note that Auto Europe is not able to issue any refunds for unused days.
    • How do I use a drop box?

      Auto Europe will automatically confirm the availability of a drop box when you reserve a vehicle for drop off outside of normal business hours. When picking up your vehicle, the representative at the pick up desk will explain where to find and how to use the drop box (typically, you simply park your rental car in a designated lot and leave the keys in a locked drop box).
