Tunisia is the smallest country of North Africa. It measures approximately 500 mi/805 km from north to south and about 200 mi/322 km from east to west. The road network is fairly extensive and of quite good quality, making it relatively easy to visit tourist destinations in most parts of the country. There are good connections to the road networks of neighboring countries, but rental cars may not be taken outside of Tunisia. Gasoline is inexpensive and is easily available.
To rent a car in Tunisia, you must be at least 21 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your licence for one year. Drivers renting a car under 25 may incur a young driver surcharge.
Speed of travel in Tunisia is determined more by road conditions than by regulation. Plan to travel slower than 20mph/30kph in cities and not more than 50mph/90kph on highways.
Rules of the Road
Driving is on the right, as in North America. Road signs generally follow the European model, and text is written in French and Arabic.
Gasoline is inexpensive in Tunisa and gas stations are plentyful throughout the country.
There is a toll highway that goes between Tunis and Sousse. The toll is about US$2 - US$3.
Street in the major cities of Tunisa have parking meters that are valid for usually 2 hours. Paid parking lots and garages are not as common as they are in North America.

All our car rental rates include fire and third party liability insurance. Our inclusive rates also provide collision and/or theft coverage at an advance purchase discount. You may elect to decline collision and theft coverage. If you plan to take advantage of coverage offered by your credit card, please contact your card issuer directly for details. Specific insurance information for your reservation will be printed on your confirmation voucher.
The following guidelines apply to rentals commencing in Tunisa.
Fire and third party liability insurance is mandatory and is included in all rentals. Third party liability offers unlimited coverage in case of damage or injury to people or property outside of the rental car.
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is included in our inclusive rates at a discount. CDW, if purchased at the rental counter, will cost approximately US$7 - US$15 per day. CDW reduces the deductible (responsibility of the client) to US$300 - US$1145. Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) is available at the rental counter for approximately US$2 per day. Super CDW may be offered locally to reduce the deductible as low as zero.
Cars rented in Tunisia may not be taken outside the country.
Vehicles rented in Tunisia may not be driven outside the country.
