Driving Overview

General Information
The network of highways and secondary roads in Sweden are among the best in Europe. The motorway, known as the Motorvag, runs between Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmo and connects Stockholm to the northern coastal region of Sweden. The roadways of Sweden traverse the varied scenery of woodlands and costal views. Travel to the mountains in the north and visit the Skane area with its castles and beautiful beaches. It is possible to drive the entire length of Sweden from north to south.

Requirements
To rent a car, you must be at least 18 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your license for 2 years. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge. Seatbelts are mandatory and children up to age 7 must wear an age appropriate restraint.

Speed Limits
Speed limits in Sweden are as follows: City 31/mph/50kph Open Roads 55mph/90kph Highways 68mph/110kph

Rules of the Road
Traffic travels on the right and trams are to be passed on the right. You should signal a clear road ahead for people passing you by turning on your right directional.

Gas
Most gas stations open from 7am to 10pm. Automatic pump, marked 'sedel automat,' operate after business hours and accept paper money.

Tolls
There are no toll highways in Sweden.

Parking
Most Swedish cities operate on both metered on-street parking and timed ticket machines from 8am to 6pm. On street parking usually takes place on the right side of the road only. Sweden imposes incredibly high fines for parking violations.

Insurance Information

General Information
Car rental insurance varies widely, so please review the information below prior to making your reservation. Regulations of the country where you rent the car will be in effect for the duration of your rental.

All our car rental rates include fire and third party liability insurance. Our inclusive rates also provide collision and theft coverage at an advance purchase discount. You may elect to decline collision and theft coverage. If you plan to take advantage of coverage offered by your credit card, please contact your card issuer directly for details. Specific insurance information for your reservation will be printed on your confirmation voucher.

The following guidelines apply to rentals commencing in Sweden.

Required Coverage
Fire and third party liability insurance is mandatory and is included in all rentals. Third party liability insurance offers US$6,300,000 to unlimited coverage in case of damage or injury to people or property outside of the rental car.

Optional Coverage
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and theft protection are included in our inclusive rates at a discount. CDW, if purchased at the rental counter, costs approximately US$9 - US$30 per day. Theft protection, if purchased at the rental counter, costs approximately US$5 - US$10 per day. CDW and theft coverage reduce the deductible (responsibility of the client) to US$170 - US$820. Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) is available with some suppliers at the rental counter for approximately US$5 - US$10 per day. Super CDW may be offered locally to reduce the deductible as low as zero. Optional insurance coverage is available with select suppliers only, rates subject to change without notice.

Rental Restrictions

General Information
Most car categories can be driven anywhere in Western Europe without restriction. Due to insurance regulations, there are restrictions on luxury car categories and on travel in certain countries. Please take a minute to ensure that your intended itinerary will be possible with the car you plan to rent

Restricted Countries
Cars rented in Sweden are not allowed into the following countries: Albania, Bosnia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine and Yugoslavia. Luxury cars are not allowed into Italy.

One-Way Rentals
Domestic one-way rentals are available and some routes incur additional return fees. There are fees for international one-way rentals, and not all vehicles are allowed.
