It was a lot easier than I expected to rent a car, and it went smoothly enough upon arriving. The car really made the trip as we were able to plan our own route and take the extra time to drive through the mountains. We only had to use a half tank of gas so it was way cheaper than public transportation. We got to see a lot of the smaller cities and stop when we saw something interesting instead of the trip being all about the destination as it so often is with public transportation

The people were very friendly and understanding. They even gave us directions to get us started on our trip. They picked us up from the train station and, had we returned while they were open, would have given us a ride back to it. We got the paperwork sorted out as quickly as possible, and they made sure we had all the documents we needed so that our car obeyed all the local laws. I'd do it again.

It was perfect. The only drawback is not being able to return the car after noon on Saturday or all day Sunday.

SIXT did not equip our rental car with a spare tire. Additionally, the SIXT agent in Ljubljana did not inform us that there was no spare tire. We had an irreprable flat in Croatia and had to pay $200 to have the tire replaced. SIXT refused to pay for the repairs.

They were quite late opening their office on the day I had to return the car, so I had to leave it without final check-in inspection or bill, then run to catch the train. All worked out OK, but it was rather disconcerting at the time. Otherwise, all OK.
