Before you leave for Europe, here is a little checklist that you can use to make sure you have everything you need to rent a car. Why take your US license? Well for starters, it's 100% absolutely necessary to have in order to rent a car. There are zero exceptions to this rule. If you don't have your license, they simply won't be able to release the vehicle. Your passport is often asked for as proof of your identification, and you should have it anyway as you need it to board an international flight. Your major credit card is very important to have. We can't always guarantee that a debit card will be accepted for an international car rental. Also, your credit card may be able to cover your insurance, so there's yet another reason to bring it. Your car rental voucher is important because it has lots of information that the counter needs to give you the car, and it also has information that is helpful to you. Make sure to read the terms and conditions closely. An International Drivers Permit can be extremely helpful if you need it.
If you're going to need any add ons to your rental car, make sure you confirm them in advance with Auto Europe. You don't want to arrive with out the child seats, ski racks, or snow chains not being available. We do send out an email before you leave reminding you to take all these things with you in order to help make your trip go a little more smoothly.
