Lisbon Half Marathon A great way to see the beautiful city of Lisbon as well as enriching good health is to sign up for the annual Half Marathon. The largest event of its kind, the route passes through many famous landmarks, showcases numerous historic buildings, and offers scenic views to the over 30,000 participants in the event. If you’re not interested in running the race, walk along the sidelines to cheer on the contestants; you can observe the photogenic landscape at a much slower pace this way.
Festival of the Flower If scents of floral masterpieces waft through the streets of Funchal, it can mean only one thing: the Festival of the Flower has finally arrived. Visitors are treated annually with a local parade of flower sculptures, arranged in complex and wildlife designs. While the flowers are on display, there are live concerts and tasty treats for everyone to enjoy. What a beautiful way to welcome the spring!
Freedom Day This public holiday commemorates the end of the dictatorship that ruled Portugal for more than 40 years, and is typically celebrated with a trip to the beach! Algarve International Film Festival Founded in 1972, the Festival Internacional de Cine do Algarve continues as one of the longest running film celebrations in Portugal. Shorts are the centerpiece of the affair, exhibiting a concentrated focus on the promotion of the mini-pictures. There are numerous other events held, including award ceremonies for the best Portuguese filmmaker as well as the best environmental documentary. Film buffs are in for a treat at this cultural feast!
Guincho Wave Contest This annual event takes advantage of the pristine sand and surf of Portugal's Guincho Beach with an exciting watersports competition. Windsurfers from around the world perform their skillful craft, while searching for the perfect wave and ideal platform for their tricks.
