Events for 2008Uzgavenes - Shrovetide
This is Lithuania's version of Mardi Gras. It is a celebration held throughout the streets of Vilnius. People dress up to wish winter farewell for the year and prepare for the fast that is ahead. Uzgavenes is Shrovetide excess before Lent. St. Casimir's Day Fair
The patron saint of Lithuania, St. Casimir, is honored each year in with fair in Vilnius. This celebration dates back to the 17th century and not only celebrates the saint, but also welcomes in the spring. New Baltic Dance
The New Baltic Dance festival brings the best of contemporary dance to Vilnius. Performances take place throughout the Lithuanian capital in venues such as Vaidila Theatre, Meno Fortas, Klaipeda Concert Hall and the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre. Feast of St. John
This event is known by the locals as Jonines and is celebrated around Midsummer's Day in honor of the summer solstice. |
