Race of the Classics The best amateur sailors in Europe gather every April to participate in the Race of the Classics. Over 20 teams sail to England and back over the course of 4 days trying to win the Challenge Cup. Its a difficult race, but those up to the rough seas get to celebrate upon return with a giant party on Sunday.
Festival of the Arts This unique festival celebrates all styles of art, including theatre, music, dance, film, multimedia, visual arts and all kinds of combinations. Artists take liberties with using the city as a canvas, and there are numerous interactive artworks. Many world class artists choose this festival to unveil new works, and there are several auctions as well. Fans of all kinds of expression will surely enjoy this festival.
Re-enactment of the Battle of Waterloo Take a step back in time and witness the epic battle of Waterloo, re-enacted annually by almost 1000 volunteers. Completely dressed for battle, these actors provide an inside look into the life of a medieval warrior during the 1800s. At this series of events you can stroll through the camps set up along the field, learn about the procedures of battle and daily life, and even get an up close peak at the weaponry they used. If bringing children to this event, make sure to attend during the first two days of the festival, when more peaceful re-enactments of the battle are held.
Rock Werchter Heralded as Belgium's biggest and best musical event of the year, this festival attracts up to 50,000 spectators annually. This year's docket includes the world famous Green Day, and the concert is set up in an idyllic wooded setting.
Durbuy Music Festival The City of Durbuy comes alive with music, as the worlds smallest city celebrates classical music. If spending the day sharing stories with friendly locals under the sun, and seeing live classical music in the evening sounds good to you, this is the place to be in August. |
