Halloween will be upon us in just over a month, and there’s no better time to get creative. Dressing up for Halloween this year? In need of some excellent costume ideas? Here is an eclectic list of characters to help get the creative juices flowing.
Halloween Ideas: Team Costumes
Comic movies were huge this year. In X-Men: First Class the “bad guys” (per usual) have the best getup’s. Azazel would be particularly difficult to pull off, and anyone who hadn’t seen the movie would just assume you were a devil, but Emma Frost could be a great costume for the right person. Of course the best character in the movie, Magneto, gets the best look. Nothing beats that purple helmet and cape combo. Thor was another great character who got his own movie this year as was Captain America, whose realistic portrayal makes for a great costume.
- Game of Thrones
This show has a more choices to choose from than most, so opportunities to be creative are endless. I expect to see a good amount of couples costumes from this amazing show this Halloween. Those looking to show a little skin will probably go for the Drogo and Daenerys combo, while others may choose a more conservative Jamie/Cersei Lannister look. It would be great to see a set of siblings, or even an entire family pull off the group Halloween costume of the Stark family. If you want to get creative, take your Draco Malfoy wig from last year, get a red cape, and dare be Joffrey. However given how his character was received on the show, it might not be a bad idea to bring a bodyguard in the form of Gregor “The Hound” Clegane with you.
Homemade Halloween Costumes
- Freddie Mercury
This year would have marked Freddie Mercury’s 65th birthday. In case you missed it, Google paid tribute with a crazy little video set to “Don’t Stop Me Now.” There is a Freddie biography movie staring Sacha Baron Cohen that is set to begin filming this year, so if you can get your hands on some Adidas training pants and sneakers, a white tang top, a half mic stand, and a yellow leather jacket with buckles you’re in business. Or, disregard convention and go as retro Freddie with a one piece spandex checkered unitard. Either way you’ll have yourself a real good time.
- Rick Grimes
Rick Grimes is the reluctant hero in the new AMC show The Walking Dead. Though the first season was only 6 episodes, it is amazing, and will make for a perfect Halloween theme. The traditional brown sheriff uniform with matching hat is all you need, although it wouldn’t hurt to make it look a little ragged. Get a couple of friends to dress as zombies and chase you around for the night to really drive the role home.
- Son of Anarchy
Going as one of the Sons of Anarchy is probably the easiest to pull off, and works even better if you have a group costume. Just pick up a shirt and choose which character you want to be. If you’re looking to patch yourself into the gang, you may want to think twice as FX doesn’t license the patches for sale and the ones you can get will run you upwards of $200. Plus, depending on where you live and where you plan on going Halloween night, this may not be a such a good idea. Actually, on second thought, don’t do this.
- Zombified News
Take your favorite (or least favorite) news story of 2011, and zombify it! While the idea of dressing up as Prince William and Kate Middleton might sound boring to some, like most things they get better with a little zombie in the mix. Think about it, while a fully lit up Tron costume is cool, it would be so much more interesting as zombie-Tron. Zombie Charlie Sheen, who bears a striking resemblance to regular Charlie Sheen is another great idea, but remember if you go as Zombie Moammar Gadhafi, you may or may not have people thinking you are Michael Jackson.
Later this week we will be reviewing the top locations to celebrate Halloween, so be sure to check back!
