The trek ends in the village of Storms River, which is situated in the lush forests of the Tsitsikamma Mountains.
The Seven Lakes Route | Argentina
Follow Argentina’s National Route 234 on a 110 km expedition; it boasts vistas of snowcapped mountains and a series of tranquil lakes. Although it is known as the Seven Lakes Route, this tour will take you by a total of eight lakes! Start off in San Martín de los Andes and make your way north to Villa la Angostura. This is a road trip to savor, so take your time and pull your rental car in Argentina off onto various overlooks, which are conveniently located along 234.
Blue Ridge Parkway | United States
Scaling the peaks and valleys of the Shenandoah National Park and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the 460 mile Blue Ridge Parkway. This expanse of road meanders its way through the states of North Carolina and Virginia. There are several lovely camp sites scattered throughout this route, and a couple nights spent under the stars is the perfect way to turn your travels into a serene, weekend retreat.
Cape Breton Cabot Trail | Nova Scotia
Complete a 298 km circuit that spotlights Nova Scotia’s rugged coastline and cuts into the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Try to spot a moose or bald eagle while passing through the wooded preserve and partake in a whale watching cruise, which sails out of Chéticamp’s quaint harbour. Make a stop in Pleasant Bay for a lobster roll and the added accompaniment of stunning Atlantic Ocean views. If you decide to visit during the fall, you will be rewarded with a kaleidoscope of brilliant foliage.
Amalfi Coast | Italy
The alluring Amalfi Coast claims an 80 km ribbon of roadway that was originally cleared by the ancient Romans. This piece of the Strada Statale 163 precariously hugs jagged cliffs and coils alongside the Tyrrhenian Sea. Start off in Amalfi and stop by the charming Mediterranean villages that dot the shoreline and eventually you will run into Sorrento, the final village of this course. Be sure to sample a glass of the region’s specialty, Limoncello.
Great Ocean Road | Australia
Australia’s southeastern coast is home to the 243 km Great Ocean Road. It is the world’s largest war memorial, which was constructed by soldiers upon returning to their country from WWI. Not only is it an Australian National Heritage but it is also where you can view such natural wonders as the Twelve Apostles, giant limestone formations that rise from the Southern Ocean. The two lane route winds along the Shipwreck Coast, from the cities of Torquay to Warrnambool.
